I need some advice.

Current Build:

Seasonic M12II-620
XFX Radeon HD 7970
Gigabyte Z87M-D3H
Intel Core i3 4130(Upgrade to i5 4670K)
Crucial Ballistix Sport 4GB
Fractal Design Core 1000

I can either go with above build, or a i5-4430 + 270X. A balanced build, or a GPU heavy build.

Not going AMD mATX since the motherboards are low in quality.

I'm talking about AM3+ mATX boards.

They are still great boards.

This is true. The 97/990X boards are not found in mATX flavors

if its not going to be a dedicated gaming build I would go balanced.

No point going i3 and upgrading later.

Grab a 6300 and a M5A78L-M/USB3.

It's going to be a dedicated gaming build. I won't be doing anything else on it.

Could I even use a G3320? I've heard the performance is about 90% of an Haswell i3, but half as cheap.

i3 and 6300 is roughly same in performance. That motherboard is horrendous. And if I'd only get the FX chip so I can overclock, which is fair to say that that motherboard does not support overclocking. AM3+ is a dead socket.

It'd be a much wiser decision to go with a decent Z87 mATX motherboard which allows future chips to be overclocked, namely the i5-4670K.

well, then I would say an i5 for Intel or a 8320 for AMD, and going with either a r9 270x for Intel, or a Nvidia 670.  Or going with a r9 280x with AMD or a 7970

The motherboard does the job. The mobo is enough for a small oc.

Looking back at the parts, I'm pretty sure the OP can fit an i5 in the build.

same performance

Games aren't that cpu heavy. The more cores would be better in the long run especially with a decent oc.
