so here's a thing that just happened about an hour ago.

i was using my daily driver Galaxy S7 like i normally would. checking Facebook i think. anyway, all of a sudden, the thing turns off.

>wat

naturally, i try rebooting. it booted up like always, and got me to the screen where you have to enter the code to unlock the sim card.

i tap the screen once, and suddenly the image distorts and the thing enters a bootloop.

>wat

me being me, i try to enter recovery. no luck, recovery just hangs untill i force reboot the thing. then it just enters the bootloop again.

so i try entering ODIN mode next. lolnope, screen distorts, bootloop.

>wat

suddenly, it hangs on the samsung logo for about 5 minutes, not responding to any input whatsoever, and then dies.

>WHAT!?

at this point, i lost hope. i tried plugging it into my PC, nothing. i plug it into the charger, nothing. i try several chargers including QI, nothing!

i now realise i'm in some serious shit. i contact my provider, and they only tell me i need to contact samsung directly. i check out samsung's website, and they closed the customer support lines 3 minutes ago.

so yeah, does anybody have any experience with a phone just putting it's firmware through the blender like this? because i've never had this happen before!

Haven't had anything like that on my S7 Edge.

Can you remember the firmware or the latest update applied?

Although my friend has a UAE model (lol) here in the UK and it occasionally freezes and locks up. That's what he gets for getting it cheap on Amazon i guess xD

latest update got me to Android 7, don't know the exact update though.  i experienced some sluggishness in 7 which i didn't have in the previous version. probably just a bad flash of an OTA?

tbh i don't really know what did this. all i know is that it's been charging for hours now without even the LED lighting up. safe to say it's a paperweight now :P

maybe a good time(excuse) to try the S8?

Return it to the shop and let them have a look. If it's really dead then just get rid and try something new maybe.

I'll stand by the S7 line though. I do think it is great although have heard of issues. Just haven't had them myself.

If you don't need your data, try a ODIN flash of the latest firmware.

If it does not turn on, hold volume down and power button to reset the battery connection.

Have you even read the OP?

Button combinations do not work. It cannot get into the bootloader (ODIN) anymore.

Anyway, i returned it under warranty already. I'll be having a new one within a week.

If thats the case then u are out of luck dude.. u cant flash it again as it needs to enter download mode.

If u didnt have any experience with a phone its best to return it for warranty.

i have build my own ROMS before, and know a great deal about Android to be honest, but i admit that this went a bit over my head. probably a hardware failure or maybe a bad flash of the OTA upgrade to 7.0?

anyway, it is on it's way to Samsung as we speak for repairs under warranty, so yay for that i suppose? :P
