Hello everyone :) Currently have 1x8GB 1600mhz stick in my system. 3 more slots are free. I have an opportunity to get some ram for cheap. Was thinking to jump to 16GB of RAM. Now there are some questions:

1. Would it count as a dual channel if I bought same 1x8 1600mhz stick from same manufacturer and add it to my 1x8GB?

2. Or I'd be better off with buying a kit of two - 2x4GB and adding them to my 1x8GB? Would 2x4GB kit run in a dual channel and 1x8GB in single channel? Or they all would run in single channel?

thanks in advance ;)  have a nice day

yes - just put one stick on a channel A slot and the other one in a channel B slot - your mainboard manual should have some more details like wich slots to use first

it's not that simple. you could put 2x4gb in channel A and the single 8gb stick on channel B but uneven stick configurations are not recommended AFAIK

Yup just get another 8gb stick, you can run it in dual channel.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

try to get the exact same ram model, if you get lower clocked one your other ram module will also run on that lower clock

well it is made by the same manufacturer, has same speed, same latency (CL), exact same code and even same color :D anything else I should look for?
