I have purchased an Intel Xeon X5460 and a E5450 and I am trying to make them work on my ASUS P5Q SE motherboard through the LGA 771 to 775 mod. I have installed the adapter on both chips and cut the tabs on the CPU socket (I did bend one pin while doing so, but even with that my older Pentium E2180 worked fine). However, when I try booting up with the Xeon, I get nothing with both chips. Any suggestions?

You need to modify and update the BIOS on the board using the older chip. There should be a guide on how to do that within the guide you're following.

I did that with the E2180. I downloaded the latest BIOS from the motherboard manufacturer's website, I download the microcodes from delidded.com and I used the MMtool to bring them all together. Then I flashed it with ASUS EZ Flash 2.

Are you sure you're putting the Xeons in the correct orientation then? Since you don't have the notches, you might be putting them in wrong. Is the sticker securely put on and making good contact/is it in the right area?

For orientation, I lined up the arrow on the Xeon with how it was on my E2180.

For the sticker, I am not sure if it is the best spot it could be in. It did loose a bit of the stickiness when I was putting it on the chip. (picture below)

I'm honestly not too sure on what else could be wrong. Just for sanity checks, is the motherboard power cable plugged in, and is the PSU switched on? What does the system do when you power it on?

The motherboard power cable is plugged in, and the PSU is switched on. When I power the system up with the Xeon, the hard drives, CPU heatsink, GPU and everything turn on for 5 seconds and shut off automatically and then around 3-5 seconds later it turns on again automatically and I get nothing, it doesn't post.

Sounds like it's hitting a stage where it checks the CPU and it fails that. Is there any damage to the socket?

There is one bent/broken pin on the motherboard (https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/785194-bent-pin-on-motherboard/#comment-9895846).

However, even with this bent pin, my Pentium works fine.

I have also tried resetting the BIOS by taking out the CMOS battery, that didn't do anything either.

I tried again today and the same thing, it didn't post. I was successful in getting my Pentium E2180 to work, though. I even was able to overclock to 3GHz, I don't know what's the deal man.
