They are most likely using ZFS since UnRaid does not officially support storage in the range of one Petabyte or more (although it could be done). And I don't think Linus minds the inconveniences of ZFS in terms of restrictions when upgrading since he could "simply" buy another identical server in the future if he wanted to expand the storage capacity.

Thank you for your reply

Yeah I am just wondering because we want to use UnRAID and BTRFS, especially since Linus is working with UnRAID and investing in their company.  The 100TB 1GB/s video he was stating he switched to BTRFS but that was back in 2015 and was trying to get more detailed information as to BTRFS current state with RAID5/6.

We might just end up going with ZFS and FreeNAS as we want to be able to go up to 150TB eventually and maybe more.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but BTRFS RAID 5/6 shouldn't be done on a server that isn't power protected from unsafe shutdown? In unraid I believe the default is XFS data drives with BTRFS cache. In unraid if you want just BTRFS it's applied per disk then they're raided using MD (mdadm)? If you want a pure BTRFS RAID 5/6 then you need something like Rockstor however I'm not sure if it's safe against power failure (unexpected shutdown)
