That awkward movement when Porsche Design Book One is cheaper than Surface Book and MacBook "Pro"

For all those people shouting out that $2495 is not worth it for a convertilbe without a dGPU and we are paying a premium for the "Porsche Design" Logo,
The Surface Book with similar specs and a dGPU is $205 higher than the Surface Book with the iGPU.

The MacBook "Pro" 13 inch is available with only iGPU where as the 15 inch is available with dGPU (The Radeon Pro 460, NOT to be confused with the RX 460)

Both Surface Book and MacBook "Pro" are still using Skylake where as Book One is using Kaby Lake.

That makes the Porsche Design Book One $4 cheaper than it's competitors. And one must not forget that Book One is using Kaby Lake where as others are still using Skylake.

Oh, btw, those $4 matter because i can use them to get a nice chocolate bar.

not defending it but older MacBooks are well built and supported machines(before 2016), macs have declined in quality.

what about cooling and performance though. i mean it only has one small fan hole from what i can see, will this also sound like a Porsche for that authentic experience?

Maybe, but currently, the Book One looks like a pretty good deal.

Sadly, the new ones don't seem to be built like the older (Steve Jobs) ones. I've got a 2012 MacBook Pro, the latest you can swap parts in. Interesting that they left it that way for one year after he died, and then switched to soldered in ones and everything. (But I still love the new USB-c super slim rMBP!)

nope, horrible deal, no support after purchase, cooling is questionable, ugly logo, overall not worth getting.

1. It's priced same as competition.

2. I'm pretty sure Porsche Design would provide after sales service

3. It's hard to question the cooling till the product is completely released

4. Aesthetics is a personal choice. Some people like the logo, some don't.

5. Currently, a better choice than the surface book and macbook pro at the same price point. (Considering you don't care about the OS on the MacBook Pro)

not even close to its competition( apple has the best service in the tech industries, Microsoft is decent)

true but in my opinion the logo on that laptop is more of a show-off purposes, a big obnoxious logo in the middle, making it look cheap.

surface pro will provide a lot more support than the book one.

I have to agree that more and more manufacturers are making these kinds of 'premium' products with $2k+ pricetags. Where before, this was only Macbook territory.

You also see it with the 'thin gaming laptops' like the Razer Blade and others, which often have $3k+ pricetags. I don't like where things are going..

I must say, I have a Macbook pro Retina 15" late 2013 that cost me $2600 back in the day. I feel comfortable paying that much for a Mac, because I know at least their customer service is top notch. I got the Applecare warranty as well, and when my Keyboard was acting up and my PC was rebooting intermittently, they gave me a completely new motherboard, new keyboard, and whole new bottom assembly with new battery (which is huge!), free of charge! (well, I paid for the Applecare, but you get the point). Also when my iPhone 3GS back in the day died after 2 years, they gave me a brand new one, free of charge.

I can't speak to the customer service of the other brands, but I would not feel comfortable paying $2k+ or $3k+ on a Microsoft, HP, Dell, Acer, or whatever! In my experience, those kinds of brands dont stand behind their products like Apple does, and it is more of a: 'if it breaks after 2 years, just buy a new one" attitude.

Also, Apple products hold their value well on the second hand market. Other brands... not so much.

I don't want to make this into a Apple versus the rest topic, but I just dont like this development. I feel like Apple at least has done something to deserve commanding a premium price tag, and people who buy their products know why. The other brands... not. Just putting it in a aluminum case doesn't make it well designed. And calling it premium doesnt all of a sudden make your customer service good.
