Im building my first gaming PC and im trying to decide on 1 of 2 CPUs. The Intel i5-7600k, or the Ryzen 5 1600. Now i know the ryzen has more cores and threads, meaning its better for more video editing and productivity task, but in all honesty, the most im going to be doing at the same time is playing, having discord open, and possibly recording, so would the extra cores really go to use? Also another thing is the cpu cooler. Finding a socket 1151 cpu cooler seems very easy, but finding a AM4 socket cpu cooler seems to be a bit harder, as the ones ive seen require a extra part to be compatible, while the 1151 seems more native. THen on to speeds. i know you can overclock both cpus, but the ryzen on websites ive seen has said 3.2-3.6 speed, while inetl is 3.6 to 4.0 or 4.2. Then, while ryzen may be a bit cheaper, i am much more familiar with intel and how their stuff works, so id feel more comfortable working with a intel core. But id still like your opinion in what my final purchase should be. Thanks

1600. OCing is the exact same on any CPU. And honestly, the difference won't be big enough for you to notice from day to day use.

Yes.

i5 wins in games for the most part, especially when overclocked. That said, it's not a huge win. The R5 with 3 times as many threads is the obvious option between the 2. Especially since you plan on recording and having other programs open in the background.

The "extra part" is just a mounting bracket, which if it doesn't come included in the box, you just e-mail the company and ask for an AM4 mounting bracket, super simple. That said, the R5 1600 comes with a very capable stock cooler anyway.

That's completely irrelevant. You don't compare clock speeds of two entirely different architectures. If the R5 1600 overclocked to 4.8GHz or so, like many 7600k's do, it would tear the 7600k a new asshole. Also, the 7600k is 3.5GHz to 3.8GHz boost, not 3.6-4/4.2GHz.

Not really a valid reason to buy a CPU. Doesn't really make much sense either anyway.

You make many valid/straight forward points. guess i should start looking for am4 motherboards then. Thanks you

Yeah, that's what I'd recommend.
