Someone asked me to plan a build for them, this is the set of requirements:

  1. Video editing
  2. Unity/Game Engine Use
  3. Animation & 3D modeling
  4. Sound quality
  5. Expandability/Future proofing
  6. The ability to play & record Star Citizen (future-proofing)

For the budget of 950 USD

He already has these parts:

MSI 1060 - 6GB (good enough for now)
AMD RADEON 5770
1TB HDD
EVGA 700 WATT power supply (Unsure of the model, asked exactly what it is, so will get a reply soon.)

My ideas:

Anything to improve?

If a psu will be bought, get something in the 450W - 550W range. 750W is far more capacity than needed. PCPartPicker estimates the max draw of the build under 300W.

Ryzen does better with faster memory. The motherboard support web page has a detailed list of compatible memory kits.

Consider using the 2.5" version of the MX-300, Crucial - MX300 525GB 2.5" Solid State Drive, instead of the M.2 model. There is no significant performance difference and it will leave the M.2 slot available for a future upgrade.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

OC the RAM or get high speed RAM

PSU overkill but that's fine

Other parts are good.

The power supply is not meant to be perfect, its cheaper than the 650i and it will be more efficient under load.

Plus he wants to drop in a better GPU at a later date.

Forgot about that faster memory thing.

Alright, however, i don't think he will ever care about fast storage.
