Hi guys,

I am planning to build a Ryzen PC and I came up with a little question. What happens if I use RAM that is not officially supported by the motherboard? Does it not work at all? Will it not run at the listed speed?

Mobo in question: MSI B350 PC Mate

RAM in question: Team Group T-Force TDRED416G3000HC16CDC01 (that is 16GB)

Thanks for your help!

Its abit of a hit or miss, I've had ram that works on systems that it doesn't support, but on others it doesn't work. If you have not purchased it yet then maybe for with what it officially supports just to be safe.

MochPot: AMD Ryzen 5 2600, 16GB 3200MHz DDR4, ASRock X370 Fatality K7, 8GB Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070, 256gb Salvaged Intel Rando NVME SSD, Corsair RM750x, Corsair Carbide 275R, Windows 10 Pro

ZenServerRequiem: AMD Ryzen 3 2200g, 32GB 3200MHz DDR4, MSI B450 Gaming Plus, 4GB Nvidia GeForce GTX 960, 2GB Nvidia Quadro P400, 500gb Salvaged Intel Rando NVME SSD (Cache Drive only), 3 x Seagate Baracuda 2TB, Corsair CX500, Corsair Carbine 750T, Limetech Unraid (Running Plex, Jackett, Sonarr, WireShark, Duck DNS, Ubuntu Server VM for MC server)

qvl said will work then it will work in that mobo

for not listed on qvl you should try yourself and MAYBE it would work

It will work regardless of anything, but it might only work at 2133MHz. Anything above that is not guaranteed to work.

QVL only assures you that if the memory doesn't work on a listed motherboard, then the memory vendor has to accept RMA for it.
