Hi

So I just upgraded from an 7600k to a 7700k. How ever it overheats like mad.

In sitting in the exact samt computer that used to run a 7500k overclocked at 5ghz, 1.35v. I was using a evo 212 which I used for the 7700k at first. I started out testing at stock to see that the temps were like, and as soon as I started runing cinebench or cpuz it would go to 90C IMMEDIATELY! I found this odd and reinstalled the cooler three times, each time with new paste, to make sure that wasn't the problem. Still overheated. I also noteced that the cooler itself stayed cool, while it was really warm to touch when I was using my 7600k.

I thought my cooler might have been damaged, so I ran out and bought a kraken x52. Installed it, and no change. Still hits 90-100 the very same second I hit "test" or "bench".

Motherboard is a z270xp-sli from gigabyte.

There is complete contact between cpu and cooler.

I've also bought a new paste, but to no luck.

Any suggestions?

delid? though getting 90-100 on an aio is odd. try different program to measure temps, cpuz could be wrong

No, of course it's not delid.

HWmonitor, gigabite app center, cam (software that came with kraken), fanspeed, all show the same temps.

When I'm in the bios it's sitting at 60C.

First of all: Intel is fucking retarded comming with a statement like that. That would be like volvo saying "yeah, buy our cars, but don't drive them".

Second: It's NOT overclocked. It's running stock.

I agree with you. They're idiots. Sell unlock K versions of there processors specifically to be overclocked and then go ahead and say not to overclock them.
Even if you're not overclocking, it still points to a common problem with the processor. Maybe you could try undervolting?

This is why Intel need to stop cheaping out on their thermal solution for their CPUs. Despite this 90-100 sounds high even for cheapskates intel. When you remove the cooler has the paste spread out evenly? This indicates good contact between the cooler and CPU.

Might be worth grabbing a 120mm aio cooler. I know it's not the best solution, but it should help.

As I wrote, it bought a kraken x52 and installed it with no change to temps.

Sorry, missed that. Just seen the hyper 212. This is very strange. You should of seen a moderate decrease in temps. Try resting your bios to defaults maybe?
Do you have the pump running full speed?

You say it hits 90-100 as soon as you hit test. What happens after that, do the temps come down or do they stay that high?
Also, is it only cpuz you're using to monitor the temps? Maybe try another monitoring tool? http://openhardwaremonitor.org/

Completely new.

Water temps are steady at 34 no mather if i test or not.

Is it possible for at chip not to be able to transfer heat? As I wrote before my evo cooler didn't get warm, so the heat was not transfering to the cooler eventhough it was installed correctly.

I used hwm. And the temps go straight down as fast as they go up (1 second).

I'm not sure. I suppose it's possible. Do you still have your other cpu? If so, pop that back in and test it again. If the temps are where they should be then RMA the 7700k.

That's the thing... I've sold it and mailed the as I was picking up the 7700k.

So it's just a quick spike and then it goes down? This is the issue people are reporting to intel. It should be fine, well as fine as it can be considering the reports from people. If temps are coming down after that spike then I wouldn't worry to much about it.
Do some heavy gaming and monitor the temps with msi afterburner.

It seems that this is happening even on none overclocked 7700k processors.
"Reports are circulating that Kaby Lake Core i7-7700K CPUs are hitting temperature spikes of 90ºC (194ºF) for no apparent reason, even on non-overclocked builds."
http://www.kitguru.net/components/cpu/paul-taylor/core-i7-7700k-temperature-spikes-enrage-users/

Honestly, it's up to you what you want to do. Honestly if it was me, I'd return it and grab a 6700k. Haven't seen or heard anything like this about that cpu. The only real difference between the two is better overclocks.

Hmm, do you have geforce experience installed? If so uninstall it and test again. That's been know to do some funny things. I think it does this when playing in borderless window sometimes. So try fullscreen to.
