Probably because normal cases are placed vertical and heat can rise and escape through the top. While desks are more horizontally and need good airflow for the heat to leave. Also the materials used like wood and glass absorb the heat more than aluminum and metal.

Ahhh, heat rising. Alright. I'll stick with a simple case. I just wish I could place it in a desk since I don't have a area in this room to place it properly. It just takes up unreasonable room. I can't particularly explain it.

England terrible usually cold when idle. Room gets hot when gaming for a long time though. My PC gives off a lot of heat when on full load and the walls are very insulating.
