I'm going to need a laptop for school and would like one with these type of requirements:

  • Matte screen - (glossy screens are too difficult to stare at during bright lights)
  • Capability to run Matlab and/or design + modeling
  • Not a gaming laptop - not designed for gaming
  • Around 15 inch screen
  • Easy to use keyboard and track pad

Any ideas or suggestions would be incredibly helpful and I give my warmest thanks.

I second this, OP get the 1080p panel and the screen is matte, but if you want the 4K panel, its is touch-enabled and it also has a glass screen.

You need powerful hardware for that IMO (like quad core CPU)

The dell XPS 15 has a glossy screen, which gives me eye strain during bright lights

As @exercutor5 said, the 1080p non-touch version is matte.

If you can go with a smaller screen, I have the Dell Latitude E7470 for work and it's really nice for AutoCAD.  Love the screen (it's matte), keyboard, and trackpad.  It also has the old Lenovo type nipple thing as another option.

Does anybody have a link to the Dell XPS 15 mentioned here? I can only find the 4k model

http://www.dell.com/us/business/p/xps-15-9560-laptop/pd

Buy it direct from Dell. Any of the first three options, only the top-of-the-line one has the 4K screen. If you use the chat on the sidebar you'll get connected to a Sales rep who you might be able to talk down the price on.
