My memory has been acting strange over the past few days

I have 8gb of kingston memory and they've been installed for about 2 weeks (the whole computer is new)

I also have a live cpu meter which also tracks RAM usage.

It only ever gets up to 48-50%. never beyond.

Also when i get into the 40% range, the computer prompts me with error messages automatically closing 'enough programs' to leave enough memory for the computer to run normally

When i get into that 48% range, a different error message comes up:

'please shut down programs' its now 'to restore enough memory for your computer to work, save your files and then close or restart all open programs'

This one, while i can ignore it and leave it open, does not have a close option on it.

I've run memtest on the machine. It did 3 passes and found 0 errors.

The CPU meter acknowledges the 8gb of ram i have, its just not using it.

I hope its not a virus.

Can someone please help?

Thanks =)

Did you disable the page file? My old computer used to do that when it was using ~4 out of 8Gb of ram.

Yes if the page file is disabled, reenable it.

Also are you running a 64bit version of windows. If you were not it probably wouldn't even show the 8gb in the ram meter but just making sure

Yes. I'm running windows 8.

According to System in task manager, 7.69gb is usable of the installed 8gb.

would the computer automatically turn off pagefile? I certainly haven't changed that setting.
