So, I've been running an FX-8350 build for a while, finally died on me.

I use my PC for everything. Some gaming, when I have time, but also coding, photo-editing, I am thinking of dabbling in 3D animation at some point. Here is what I have so far:

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/db2vFd

For the motherboard, I am not sold on the LED lighting, never been a fan, but I am not getting a case with a window anyway. Is there a better mATX board I should be looking at?

I want 32GB of RAM just to be future proof. I know it's overkill for now, but that may change. I was less sure on compatibility and speeds though. I remember just enough about the Ryzen launch to know there were a lot of RAM issues, I think most of them have been ironed out. I chose that kit because it was the more affordable 2x16GB kits that specifically mentioned being made for Ryzen that I could find.

As for the cooler, I've only used air coolers before. Don't really know what to look for in one, so I picked one that was from a brand I knew about and specifically mentions AM4.

I can cannibalize storage, PSU and graphics card from my existing rig (until Vega comes out).

Anything I am missing?

the 1800X is pointless. you're paying extra for something which can easily be achieved with a quick OC on a 1700.

Try This:

CPU: AMD - Ryzen 7 1700 3.0GHz 8-Core Processor  ($311.00 @ Amazon)
CPU Cooler: NZXT - Kraken X62 Liquid CPU Cooler  ($159.99 @ B&H)
Motherboard: Biostar - X370GT3 Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard  ($112.55 @ Newegg)
Memory: G.Skill - Flare X 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4-2400 Memory  ($251.51 @ Newegg Marketplace)
Case: Fractal Design - Define Mini C with Window MicroATX Mid Tower Case  ($79.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Total: $915.04
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

- Change the CPU to a 1700 instead of an 1800x. Assuming you're willing to overclock, an overclocked 1700 performs very closely to an 1800x and is way cheaper.

- Get the H100i V2 instead of the original. Pump is a lot better.

- Ryzen benefits a lot from higher speed RAM. Use the money saved from going with a 1700 on higher speed memory. Something like a 3000MHz kit.

I know I can overclock a 1700 to close to a stock 1800x, but I assumed an overclocked 1800x would still be a decent margin ahead of an OCd 1700/1700x.

All Ryzen CPUs seem to overclock about the same at around 4.0GHz.

32 GB is not going to be a requirement in the near future. You might as well buy 5 1080 ti because you want to be future proof. By the time 32 GB becomes a requirement, you'd be way over due for a platform upgrade.

I run some RAM hungry applications. I have 24GB in my current rig. Most of the time I don't use close to all of it, but when I like, export 1000 pictures in Lightroom or something it will use all the RAM I can give it. I also like to run VMs for dev work. I like that I could run a Linux VM with it's own 16GB and still have 16GB left over for Windows.
