Phantom Hourglass
Spirit Tracks
Pokemon Platinum Version (if you don't just want to play the newest Pokemon, this is widely considered to be the best of the more recent Pokemon for a long time)
Advance Wars Dual Strike & Dark Conflict
Fire Emblem (although they've been superseded by the newer 3DS titles)

Space Invaders Extreme 2
Maestro Jump in Music (a music game / "non-endless, endless runner" hybrid) but totally worth playing.
Scurge
Yoshi's Island DS

Also, I've only looked briefly at the Ace Attorney series, but they're probably titles I'd personally seek to potentially pick up copies of somewhere along the way (although I'd be more inclined just to purchase the latest/newest release of the series).

If you owned a Megadrive/Genesis during their lifespan, and like nostalgia: Sonic Classic Collection
If you like music games: Jam with the Band ("Daigasso! Band Brothers DX" in Japan)

Import Games (if you like music games)..

Daigasso! Band Brothers
Oshiri Kajiri Mushi no Rhythm Lesson DS
Meccha! Taiko no Tatsujin DS

Import Games (if you're into retro gaming and/or owned an NES or played Game & Watch when they were current)...

Game & Watch Collection series (Club Nintendo release, but you can find them on eBay)
Balloon Fight (Club Nintendo release, but you can find them on eBay)

Also, I've played a ton of RPGs (dating back to (and including) the archetypes of the DOS RPGs) and personally prefer the Tactical Role Playing genre, but, I can't recommend any of the handheld iterations wholeheartedly (apart from maybe Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars for the 3DS and Advance Wars & Fire Emblem) because I just can't stand the repetition...people being able to play and replay these things, repeatedly, across multiple iterations, totally baffles me: I find the repetition of just one play-through of one title absolutely torturous...

...but, that having been said, I have included Fire Emblem and Advance Wars in this list, and would recommend checking them out. Final Fantasy Tactics A2 is a game who's "Buy it Now" button I've hovered my mouse-pointer over many a time, and at length, but...I've just never really been able to bring myself to click.

[Needs Updating] My PC: i5-10600K @TBD / 32GB DDR4 @4000MHz / Z490 AORUS Elite AC / Titan RTX / Samsung 1TB 960 Evo / EVGA SuperNova 850 T2

Almost all of Atlus published games that came to the DS have been great:

Etrian Odyssey series

Devil Survivor series

Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey

Radiant Historia

Knights in the Nightmare

Oh yeah, and that's not to mention Square-Enix offerings as well. But one of them particularly stands out:

Chrono Trigger DS
