I have an Asus Zenbook with a i7 6700hq@2.6ghz and a 2gb 960m. It does ok at 1080 with low to medium settings, but that's just about it.

The desktop I built a few years prior to getting the Zenbook for portabilitys sake did better, what kind of setup would equal the desktop by todays standards?

Ideally I'd want to build with an itx case, the fractal nano s looks to fit the bill. Mobo should have wifi which I guess excludes am4 for now.

Old setup:

Fractal Design Define R4
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium

Samsung Pro series 512gb ssd
Western Digital® Desktop Green 1TB
Kingston DDR3 1600MHz 16GB
Intel® Core i7-3820 Processor Socket-LGA2011
ASUS P9X79 Deluxe, Socket-2011
2x ZOTAC GeForce GTX 660Ti 2GB
Corsair AX 850W PSU 80 Plus Gold
Corsair H100 Hydro Series

Games played:

Steel division

Squad

War Thunder

Battlegrounds

Why a 1700x or higher? The Ryzen 1600 performs nearly the same in gaming.

I mean an OC'd 1600 performs around a 6850k which is still great for video editing. I guess if you have the money then the 1700 would be better as OCd its close to a 6900k.

  • 3 weeks later...

Forgot where I posted this.. :o Thank you for the replies even though I went ahead and bought stuff before I read most of them :P

Anyhow, here's what I ended up with:

Fractal Design Define Nano S

Corsair Vengeance LPX 16gb 3000mhz (cheapest 16gb for some reason)

Samsung 960 EVO NVMe M.2 SSD 250GB

Intel Core i5-7500, demo item from store - $125

ASUS GeForce GTX 1060 6GB DUAL OC - $222

ROG STRIX Z270I GAMING, demo item from store - $123

Corsair SF600 - $106

Acer 24" LED G-Sync XB241Y - $350

I know the 1060 won't be great at the 1440p of the screen, but I'll keep the screen way longer than the gfx so it made sense to put more money into it. Could always use 1080 on it for certain games. Will also be looking for a deal on a used k cpu, hence the z270 :)

The demo stuff have full warranties so I'm ok with that, at most they have dinged up packaging and missing manuals.
