Posted May 11, 2017 Ouch… you may as well make me choose between my children. These two are the only full price triple-A games I've bought this year, and I love them both. They are from completely different genres, though. Surely you have some personal preferences involved when comparing an environmental puzzle RPG with horror and metroidvania elements, vs. a delightfully weird and sad Platinum action game. I guess I'd recommend going with Prey first, just because the edges aren't quite as rough, but I'd strongly recommend playing them both when you can. I do plan on playing both eventually, but I don't have much time to dive in to them simultaneously. My only criteria is that it should have a decently long campaign with replay value. Other than that, I'm open to new experiences and genres. I will say one of Nier's biggest strengths is in how it structures its endings and New Game+ modes. Without giving away specifics, that means it starts to get a lot better after 20+ hours, and things get crazy good at around 30–40 hours. It's not that the first portion of the game is bad at all, but if time is your main concern Nier needs a big investment to get everything out of it. But then, the combat is wonderful throughout. I'm about 15 hours or so into Prey and I'm guessing I'm about halfway through the central plot. There are a lot of [worthwhile] side quests though, so I'm unsure how long it will actually end up taking me. It's an extremely polished and enjoyable game, especially if you were into old PC classics like Deus Ex or System Shock. It's much more faithful to those games than Bioshock was, in my opinion.
