4+2+2? You have 8GB of RAM?

RAM speeds shouldn't effect gaming too much. I wouldn't bother upgrading your ram and instead aim that money towards a better GPU or if you have a crappy one a better CPU. Those will have a much bigger effect to your gaming performance.

Would having a 4gb dimm and 2x2gb dimms effect performance at all since the 4gb one wont be in dual channel?

Zalman Z9 Plus - GTX 660 TI - i5 2500k @ 4ghz - MSI 1155 Intel P67 - Corsair CMPSU-750HX - 16GB G.Skill Ripjaw 1600mhz 9-9-9-24 - Seagate ST3500413AS 500GB - Seagate ST2000DL003 2TB Backup Storage -  Old CBA to change it.

Nope, no noticeable affect. Maybe two or three more points in a synthetic benchmark, bot no real FPS difference in real world gaming.

Upgrade to an i7 2600, and get more RAM, not faster RAM. 8 threads and 16Gb RAM will make a world of difference.

Someone might be able to recommend a cheaper equivalent Xeon, but IDK that generation of Xeon.

If you had enough RAM your CPU would be at 100%. You need more CPU and more RAM. Your friend was partially right about "better" RAM.

8Gb RAM is just not enough to be playable on GTAV, and it will use six of my physical core at least.

I cant change any of the specs right now actually

Yes, more RAM, not faster. A higher core count CPU would really help in GTAV as well as some other games, not all games will benefit though.

Personally i would go for a i7 2600 like its been said by asand1 and look up supported ram for your config, sell of what you got and go for a 4x4 dual channel 1333mhz ram kit.

I cant do that right now
but looking at ram would 1333 give me any advantage in gaming ?
