So, I have a windows and Antergos Linux dual boot on my laptop. Problems with windows updates only started happening after I installed the dual boot. And to put it plainly, windows doesn't seem to be able to update. everytime it tries, it says something to the effect of "Sorry, We couldn't install the updates, undoing changes". and i'm confused. This shouldn't be a problem right? both OS's are on completely different partitions, however they are on the same physical drive.

I've never noticed that before. Your Windows installation could be messed up, though.

I really don't want to reinstall windows. i have a lot of stuff that i can't risk losing. either that or i clearly don't know how windows installers work.

Its everything, the whole thing is donezo!

Buy a Mac! xD:P

For real though it sounds like the installation of the dual boot damaged the Windows partition.

You should run sfc/ scannow in Windows as an admin to check if it can repair the install.

i wouldn't be caught dead with a mac, and i'm not arguing about. I'll respect your opinion if you respect mine. (sorry if that sounds defensive, i'm a bit defensive on that topic)

This is useful, i'll try that. But what i'm wondering is if i can reinstall windows without losing any of my data.

It is not possible for Windows to save everything however if you do a reset you can tell it to keep your data and it will attempt to save "personal files" (whatever that means to Microsoft)

(assuming the install can be repaired)

I don't know if i want to try that... I mean, windows works just fine, the only issue is that it can't update. so maybe it would be good to just leave it alone, right? I really hope it's not windows sabotaging it, but that seems super unlikely to me. I'm trying to convert over completely to linux, I'm not a huge fan of windows lately.

Lol good luck.

Im thinking of converting my PC into a Hackintosh. While Linux sounds good, lack of applications and lackluster OS features really turns me off. Plus I really like MacOS.

not that this is an issue, but i heard that hackintosh's are illegal... technically speaking.

And i'm currently testing out the KDE GUI on an Antergos, and i'm really liking it. Plus there's always ways to add more OS features, especially with arch linux. And i can see why you would really like OSX, that's not really my problem with macs. When I look at laptops, i look at the price to perfomance, not the user experience, i do that later.

EULAs are not legally binding.

I thought it was considered pirating since you can't just buy MacOS from Apple to install it on a Hackintosh...

You can download it from any Mac from the Mac App Store and I own two Macs.

So it isn't illegal... if you own a Mac?

I guess that is one way to look at it.

Its meant for installing on machines that need their OS repaired and for upgrading....but Apple takes 0 measures from stopping people from doing whatever with it.

Apple has shown that they really don't care as long as you aren't selling said Hackintosh. I guess they would rather you use their OS than not.
