Confusing CPU temps

I have an Athlon x4 860k. I've been gaming on it for over a year just fine but never checked the temps.

 

I used CPUID HW Montior and Core Temp. I was running Windows with no programs open.

 

Can anyone make sense of these readings? They can't be accurate, right?

There can be software compatibility issues between older AMD chips and monitoring software. Temperature on older AMD CPUs isn't directly measured, but calculated using an algorithm, which can lead to inaccuracies when measured using modern software.

 

You would probably get a more accurate reading from the BIOS, but either way if its worked fine thus far, they are probably fine.
