This is  a very silly question I know and sorry for that but it would be great if you can help me. I wanted to ask that is it possible that I use only 1 hard drive in my nas at a time such that other drives don't rotate which might decrease the rate of failure or should i just remove the hard disk I don't want to use and keep that data safe?

you can, and it should automatically do that with freenas (and WD green drives do this also)

assuming the data is only on that one drive

Ryzen 5 3600 stock | 2x16GB C13 3200MHz (AFR) | GTX 760 (Sold the VII)| ASUS Prime X570-P | 6TB WD Gold (128MB Cache, 2017)

Samsung 850 EVO 240 GB

138 is a good number.
