Hello Everyone,

I am Planning to do a HDD Swap/Replacement of my Laptop. My old HDD got full and thus I ordered a 2TB Seagate 2.5" HDD from Amazon India.

three Questions,

  1. Do HDDs need some special packaging, and if so does Amazon or Seagate provide it?
  2. What are general procedures for handling and storing bare internal drives?
  3. What to do about Static Electricity when swapping my hard drive?

I have read on the Internet that Touching my body on a metallic casing can help, but I have a Laptop. There is barely any metal casing accessible. I can stay away from Carpets and not walk too much but that is about it. Will tying a copper wire around my wrist and grounding it work? Also please do not suggest Anti Static Bands as this project is well overdue and I cannot waste any more time in ordering and shipping. Plus I am kind of over budget over here, and only have to swap a HDD and not tinker around computers for days.

PS.-- For the second question also know that the HDD is going to be stored for about 20 days before going into the laptop, and somebody else is going to handle it, but he/she can follow any special procedure/precaution I tell.
