Does the quality of a micro-sd to USB adapter matter or if it works on day 1, then the adapter will likely work forever? I have a bunch of micro-sd/sd cards lying around that I would like to turn into flash drives, but I also don't want to spend a lot buying many adapters. I'm also open to suggestions about a better way to handle this.

Something like this: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA6704N22381&cm_re=micro_sd_usb_adapter-_-9SIA6704N22381-_-Product

I was thinking about something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Micro-Adapter-Portable-Reader-Writer/dp/B00QH8YMFS/ref=sr_1_26?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1493575316&sr=1-26&keywords=micro+sd+to+usb

Don't think it will be a problem most are very basic with it being just a physical connection being adapted with a few voltage regulation chips or capacitors nothing special. If you want you can get a USB to SD card reader with micro SD from kingston which is a really nice one.

I'm not after a card reader, I'm just looking to turn a few micro-sd cards into flash drives because I don't know what else to do with them.

What about this? https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA6704N22381&cm_re=micro_sd_usb_adapter-_-9SIA6704N22381-_-Product Obviously for $1 not much can go wrong, but still, I'd like to buy something that's at least decent and not going to die in a year.

It shouldn't die as said those adapters are usually almost a 1:1 connection with very little extra circuity or chips built in.

It shouldn't but I have a micro-sd to sd card that died on me recently (somehow....). Anyone, I guess I'll get some, it's only $1 and I have no idea what else to do with these micro-sd cards otherwise.

I guess luck of the draw really at times but can't go wrong at only a dollar.

  • 3 weeks later...

@W-L they finally arrived, and they all work (I hope). I did a quick speed test with one of them and I was able to write a 68MB file in 20 seconds and read a 68MB file in 5 seconds (3.8MB/s write, 13.6MB/s read).

There were a lot of reviews about them arriving DOA, but you when you initially push the card in it stops prematurely and you have to push it in further, so it's probably the classic case of people being idiots.

Good deal, being just an adapter I would expect them to last quite a while.
