Is my power supply a good choice?

Go to solution Solved by Ruffleduffle,

I assume you want to put the 980s in 3way SLI? talk about dimishing returns!

According to ym crude napkin math you should be ok wiht your current PSU, but since it is a bit older i would be cautious about continuous use, since desktop psus are not rated for that kind of load. Maybe turn it off every second day or so and give it some rest.

Hi,

I have a PC Power & Cooling Silencer Mk II 950 watt (1,000w continuous) Power Supply. It has an 80+ Silver Efficiency Rating. I was wondering if it would be OK ago use it with a 5820k, 3x GTX 980s, a single radiator CPU AIO, 1 SSD, 1HD, 1 Slim BD Drive? Even if it can handle it, is its efficiency good? Or should I buy a newer semi-modular power supply? Thank You!

Why use 3 GTX 980s with a 5820K? I'm not even certain if it has the PCI lanes required to operate those at full speed.

Anyways, yes, you should be fine.

how old is that psu? reviews ive seen are from 2010.

I believe it's from around 2009-2011, yeah it's pretty damn old, but it's barely been used.
