Need help picking out ram

Hello I have come to linustechtips for some Ram help! I have a Dell T3500 that has 12gb of ram in it right now. I'm looking to upgrade it to 16 or 24gb I believe 24gb is the max. Anyone recommand any ram to me that I should buy? How much sticks will  I need? to bring it up to 16 or 24?

you dont need more than that unless you are doing serious editing and stuff

I'm planning on installing a ESXI so I can have another os on their. So I need to upgrade my ram

just get more ddr3 and install it, there are tutorials on yt. one 8 gig stick would be enough, another 16 is also ok. keep in mind it may not work together

How do I make sure it will work together?

you can't? it should work but different kits are not guaranteed to work especially with different memory sizes.
