Ignoring ram, laptop question.

First time posting so I hope I chose the right place to put this question.

 

My partner has an Asus UX32A Notebook with 6GB of ram and she want's to upgrade it instead of getting a new laptop because of sentimental value.

Turns out getting consistent information on ram is hard, a lot of outdated or contradicting information out there. This far I've only concluded that if your computer uses SODIMM DDR3 you can't have more than a total of 8GB of ram.
The problem is that 2GB of the current ram is prat of the motherboard. So what happens if I buy one stick of 8GB and put it in? Will it realize it has 8 and only use 8 fromt he same stick, will I have to disable the 2GB manually somehow, or will it just straight up not work?
Also just so it has been stated; I'm also replacing her hardisk with an SSD, I know only changing 2GB of ram won't do much.

It will just ignore the chips with the last memory bus adress, so it has eight usable. Thosf will probably be on the stick. So buy same speed memory

you can mix ram sizes, ao it will show 8+2gb or 10gb
