Hello im currently running a pc with the following specs

Cpu: i3 6100/stock cooler

Gpu: gtx 960 msi 2gb

Mobo: b150 pc mate

Ram:8gb of hyperx 2133mhz

Hd: 1tb wd blue

Psu: 600 watt evga 80plus bronze

Case: deepcool kendomen

Im going to be working this summer to save up for an i5 6500 and a gtx 1070. I need to know if the i5 will bottleneck the 1070 and also i need to know if there is a cheaper/better option. I dont feel like updateing the motherboards bios to get a new gen i5 if thats better cause i dont know if it will mess the mobo up, cause ive heard reports that mobos might break cause the bios updates.

it will not bottleneck and you wont need to update the bios, it will work without an update.

To put it simple, it will work, it just will need a driver update to optimize it. Like Ryzens had a lot of trouble on launch till drivers started coming out.

and doing a bios update doesnt mean you can use a new gen processor...

He is talking about Kabylake i5. Yes, he indeed can use a newer i5 like 7500 or 7600 if he updates his BIOS.

ah yes some z170s can use kabylake, i forgot :P

not some. all motherboards which has 1151 sockets can use Kabylake processor even if the motherboard was originally designed to work with Skylake, but with BIOS updates. Every motherboard manufacturers has BIOS updates for their motherboards. Starting from H110 to Z170.
