Mitx upgrade build

Hey all! I am selling my g4620 rig to my buddy since his PC is dying and gonna use some of the money to fund an upgrade I've been wanting to do!

CPU: Don't have a real need to OC 

CPU Cooler: Need I say anything? 

Ram: Cheap ram. May go with higher speed. Can upgrade if I feel I need more.

Motherboard: Have what I need. Not going to OC 

Storage: I like quiet so only 1 ssd. I have an external drive I can keep my mass storage stuff on if need be.

GPU: This is where I'm struggling as my budget is a bit tight. I like the gtx 1060 but I was also leaning towards saving $100 and getting a 1050ti or saving $50 and getting a 570. The only triple A game I've played in the past year was sniper elite 4. Otherwise I am mostly a f2p/indie game player. Hence why I'm leaning towards a 1050ti. Also lower power draw and I could use my old coolermaster psu since I wouldn't need a pcie connector. (lost one of them so I have like one 6 pin on it)

Case: Already have the Core 500. Thing is amazing. Def suggest

PSU: I've been using a cx750m for years. 0 issues. I like having semi modular since I am in an mitx case. 

 

I can afford the gtx 1060 but it is really squeezing the budget but it is doable.

Only thing I got to say it's get a different ssd. That ones not very good.

 

As for the GPU, it sounds like you don't need the horsepower so a 1050 ti would PROBABLY be fine, though idk what your future plans are

1. If you don't overclock then the stock cooler is good enough, unless you want even lower noise level

2. GTX 1060 6G is low on value. Maybe a 1060 3G or cheap deal on rx 470/480/570/580 4G. Get the cheapest.

3. New PSU doesn't give much upgrade compatibility, unless you stay with mid range stuff

I'll check out other SSDs and I'm coming up to my last year or uni this fall. After getting a job that isn't like $10/h and living on my own I plan on doing an insane build with high end parts because I can afford it. But until then budget for me. =) Besides the CPA exams will be taking up a ton of my time in the next year or so.

I was looking at the 1060 3G too. As I said the only part I'm struggling on.

The cpu cooler is because I like quiet. The stock is just too loud. =(

And as stated in quote above. This is going to be a temporary build. Plan on doing a major overhaul in the somewhat near future.

So you will be throwing some of these away soon? Then ask your friend whether his GPU still works, and whether you can give him your PC without the GPU. GPU needs upgrades more often than any other part of a PC.

I will prob end up keeping it for two years or so then just re-purposing it (prob a htpc or nas) and the reason I'm selling him my rig is because his gpu is dying and his cpu is crap.

This system as an nas or streaming pc is just too expensive. Building a new high performance system later will be a waste of money

 

In the future, you will find yourself wasting money on this build.

Why would building a higher end rig later on be a waste of money? I'm talking about 2 years in the future at the least.

2 years in the future and the only part that shows its age will the GPU. The rest will be fine for normal gaming. Doing a major overhaul as you planned means more than 2 parts of the system will go. Therefore, you will be wasting money upgrades on things other than the GPU.

Depends on  a lot and this is just an idea. Not anything I'm even saving for currently.

If you are going to upgrade, then get a better PSU (preferably 550W or above) and a second hand GPU in good shape and not that old (like a 960 or 770). In 2 years time the old card will go so it's better to go used.

He wants a build he will be able to enjoy something now. Then later when he has the money build something expensive and he can sell off this one like the last one.
