Upgrade thoughts

Hello good forum people

I'm thinking about upgrading some parts of my setup, but wondering if it's worth it yet.

 

Current setup

i7 4770k
gtx 1080
16gb ram

 

I'm thinking
i7 7700k or i5 7600k
gtx 1080ti
32gb ram

 

Mostly gaming with a little compiling/rendering here and there.

 

Is the performance gain going to be worthwhile or am I better off waiting for the next round of CPU/GPU iterations before upgrading and if so am I better off upgrading to bleeding edge or sticking to the above with the hope it'll be cheaper.

I'm looking to drive either an Asus PG27UQ or an Asus XB272-HDR for all the 4k HDR 144hz goodness.

 

Is the 1080ti capable of driving that? Would I need 2, would I need to wait for the next gen? Or possibly even going AMD?

Processor and RAM not worth it. Graphics may or may not, depending on what kind of performance you want.

First of all, there is no i5 6700k  I would not upgrade the CPU, I don't think that it is worth the rather small performance gain. But, if you really want a 144hz 4k screen, you need a very powerful card, with DP 1.4 of course. The 1080ti has the right DisplayPort revision, but I don't think that it will be able to give you 144hz in most games, most likely only in esports-titles like cs:go, overwatch and so on.

Yeah you should wait. Your current specs is powerful enough.

Going from an i7 4770K to an i5 7600K would be a downgrade. Going to an i7 7700K would be a sidegrade. Neither is a worthwhile option.
