DDR3 ram question

Why each time I try to OC my ram modules to 1866mhz windows shows me that only 4 gigs are usable instead of 8?

Ps: i am using some old ddr3 memory modules. (4gigs, 1600 mhz each)

Seems like there is a stability problem or something, why do you need 1866mhz? the 266mhz difference in ram is negligible at best.

I love playing with the clocks. Both new CPU and GPU got overclocked after one week of use

If you can't get the stability by increasing the timings, I would stick to the 1600MHz.

Linus's methodology wasn't the best for that video. He didn't do anything memory intensive. Once the CPU and GPU start being fully utilized, RAM can allow further improvements in gaming when both the CPU and GPU are being stressed equally.

 

DDR4 was reduced to show the speeds of DDR3. DDR3-2400 gets as many points as DDR4-2400 in testing.
