i had almost the same setup and bought myself a 750 ti, now i have a new setup with the 750ti still in it, it games well (good enough if you compare it to what i had first) and is only meant as a placeholder until i have enough money for a good GPU

Place holder gpu's (Which this is on his system, as if he wants to run games in the future, not much he can do besides go up to a core 2 Quad, overclock it as much as possible, and throw a 1050 ti in it (That actually works pretty well, Linus has a Junkyard Wars to prove it). Actually, if he wants to upgrade on the cheap, a core 2 Quad 6600 for $10 on eBay, a C2 Q9400 for $15 and a gtx 960 4 gig for $95 (They are cheaper than 750 ti's; don't ask me) or an rx 560 when they come out (the 460 is only $89 bucks, but it's only 2 gigs) will let him game pretty decent all things considered. He'd need 4 more gigs of RAM. The 960 is his best bet, and a lot of searching. Newegg, tiger direct, Amazon, eBay, Craigslist, Walmart, Bestbuy, PC outlet, Jet, anywhere. Used video card prices are off the hook. When a 1050 ti is $75 dollars cheaper than a 960 new, and the same price as a 750 ti new, well that is just insane.

At least the processor and RAM are really cheap. $20 for a new 4 gig stick at Newegg. $7 usd for 2 4gig sticks on eBay. So for an extra $22 usd + the cost of the gpu, he can have an ok gaming pc.

I have a friend who need a graphics card

His specs are

Intel core 2 duo

4gb ram

PCI 2.0 port only??

Win XP??

And the rest is potato as well

He currently has gt 210 1gb

Anything better ??

I would not bother upgrading the GPU there, the bottleneck is just too extreme. I mean, you could go with a GT 730 or something...

i always suggest a 750ti.

they are dirt cheap and perform amazingly well.

although ive seen used 1050tis for about the same price

Wouldn't recommend a 750 Ti new. For some reason the prices have stayed about the same. I just sold mine for $60 though, which was a very good deal IMO. I just needed quick cash because credit card bills aren't fair. xD
