2nd Graphics card makes system act strange

ScottWood

Running 2 295x2 makes my whole system act up, it wont boot 100% of the time, when it does it then crashes after a few minutes and reboots, other times i get a blue screen saying "Thread_Stuck_IN_Device_Driver" at this point im lost at first i thought it was the drivers but at the same time it makes they system act weird such as changing the colours of the leds ect... i have reinstalled windows and the drivers multiple times too...

I have a 1600w EVGA G2

Gigabyte Z270x Gaming 8

Skylake I7 6700k

Any ideas whats causing this any help is greatly appreciated!

Have you tried running both 295x2 separately?

edit: Fack, forgot the reasoning...

Testing them separately would allow you to make sure its not something to do with one of the cards being dud :P

Looking at my signature are we now? Well too bad there's nothing here...

Yep, quadfire :P

When you were testing them alone, did you test them in the second PCIe slot? Maybe that's a bad slot?

Lol.. Have you seen guides to see if this is even possible? What is your mobo? You may be running low of pcie lanes. Like I said not sure how they work but if your board has 8x and 4x lanes Crossfire would be forced to run as 4x on both lanes providing you with a very bad experience and probably loss of performance even if it worked. I have this issue on my asrock board.

So not a motherboard/PCIe slot problem...

Shouldn't be a one-time software problem (as you've reinstalled everything multiple times)

Shouldn't be a GPU issue

Shouldn't be a PSU issue (as you're not even booting into the system)

Maybe RAM? o_O

It's AMD...the manufacturer that allows you to crossfire "different" (but same core) GPUs :P

I mean with AMD, you can effectively SLI a 690 (295x2), a 680 (290X) and a 770 (390/390X) together...

Also 290X/295x2s are supposed to be quadfire capable.

Both slots should be running at 8X which is enough for the 295 ;)

On a side note, you can crossfire AMD cards on PCIe 3.0 4x slots so...even if each "290X core" is only given 4 lanes each, it should work.

Looking at my signature are we now? Well too bad there's nothing here...

That's a good board. Basicly add up all your pcie devices like m.2 ssds wifi cards gpus etc then fine out how many your board has per slot. It varys between different boards. M.2 ssd use 4 lanes Gpus generaly can use 4 8 or 16.

M.2 and 1x slots uses chipset PCIe lanes, not CPU lanes ;)

The only slots that usually use CPU lanes are PCIe 16X slots (regardless electrically or the actual slot).

Ah rip...you're stealing 4 lanes from one of the GPUs xD

What are the chances you can test it without the 750?

Edit: Should say it shouldn't matter however

The ram is stable ive used it for about a year in a diffrent system so i cant think that would be an issue if so why would it only trigger when im running in crossfire?
