Hi!

Is there a way to limit internet usage of some devices that are connected to the internet in my home?

For example set a limit of 500MB, and after that they are connected to the wifi but they don't get any internet. And my devices have unlimited access.

Is there a way to do that???

I buy 55GB of internet every mounth and today some guests came to my home and used 10GB of it, I want do something to limit this.

I figured that was it, but if it was bandwith then I would've said limiting bandwith is better than amount.

Also 10 GB??????? How tho.... I use 50ish in a month on my phone (who knows how much I use on my PC tho.

I believe most modems and access points have some sort functionality which would allow this. If you're using static IPs for lan then just limit the specific IPs. It's better just to use the MAC address.

Can u tell me how can I do that?

I have a DLink router

You'd have to tell me the exact model.

If it's 5 years or older, I wouldn't hold my breath for the total amount based limit. It should at least have the bandwidth.

bandwidth shaping is they key word to look for. Limiting individual users could be done with a proxy. Cheapest and easiest way I can think of is using Pfsense in a virtual machine which means your pc will always be on

Only bandwidth control.

OK, so log-in to you modem. iirc the default address for them is http://dlinkrouter.

Click manual setup. On the left, traffic control.

Put in the IP address of the devices you want to limit. Select mode, select speed and hit save.

Well I would prob use that much on my phone if I watched vids in 1080/1440 but I watch in like 720 or 480 because my router (might be overheating) turns off all the time so it connects to mobile data and I don't wanna use it up. But I probably use that much on my computer tbh. Or atleast all of my devices combined.

I have my cellular turned off at home (I can't afford any overages), and I watch YouTube in 480p or 720p usually. You can tell how much I watch (mostly listen to, actually).

When I'm feeling lucky, I'll try to get 1080p or maybe 1440p, but usually only up to 720p (because I watch on my iPhone 4 with the maximum of 720p on the YouTube app) and my router would catch fire if I tried to watch 1080p for too long.

But I can't even do 4k on my computer. That's about the only limitation of my Core 2 Duo E8400. The internet is fast enough but the computer isn't. I never though I'd be saying that.
