Linux + Windows, KVM(?)

I thought the same about the PSU, but somehow a calculater got me to that high wattage. I guess it calculated the overclock wrong.

Can you really overclock a 1700 to the same clock as the 1700X?
I thought it would be limited due to a lower TDP.

The 1700X is only at 3.4 or 3.8Ghz under turbo, the 1700 can easily go past those speeds. I have my 1700 at 3.7 ATM, but only because I need it absoloutely rock solid, and am only using the wraith spire cooler included with the 1700. Not to say the wraith isn't a good cooler, it is fantastic, just not as good as a 240mm AIO obviously. So you should have no problems getting an OC to 3.9/4Ghz with that cooler and mobo.

OK, if you want a 1200W PSU go for it, it's your money you're spending after all. I won't bother trying to talk you out of it as it'll be a waste of my time in my experience. I will say though that you made an assumption on how high of an OC you would get out of the CPU, and the power draw and heat rises dramatically after a certain point, not to mention voltage needed to sustain the OC stability... which I believe is where most of your wattage calcculated comes from.

Thank you, I will take a look at some more oc experiences with the family. :)

Yeah, that could actually be the case because another calculator where you couldn't put in your overclock (I believe it was newegg) spit out a lower wattage.
