Hello, im looking to upgrade my current pc build but im having a hard time deciding if i should get an i5-7600 with a gtx 1060 3gb or an i7 7700 with a gtx 1050 ti. Im looking mainly towards longevity (i dont want to upgrade in a long time) and gaming at 1080p.

Additional info:

-I could stretch my budget and get an i7 7700 with a 1060 3gb or an i5 7600 and a 1060 6gb. but i dont really want to unless worth

-the price difference between i5 and i7 is around $120 dollars in here. The gtx 1050 ti: $180, 1060 3gb: $265 and 1060 6gb is $340.

-Not considering k processors because the price difference in buying a cooler and oc mobo is way too much in here. I also dont want amd.

-I dont really mind lowering some settings in some games to get better fps, what i want the most is not having to upgrade any time soon

"I don't want AMD" is the mindset that restricts you from getting a good PC. I suggest you ditch it.

There's little reason to grab a locked i5 nowadays with the release of AMD's R5 processors. The R5 1600 is a good medium between the i5 7600 and i7 7700... and you can also overclock it.

I suggest you skip the GTX 1060 3GB altogether. The limitations of 3GB is starting show, especially in texture heavy titles. The RX 480 8GB or GTX 1060 6GB are good choices. Just get the cheaper one of the two.

That option will only work if hes also buying a new mobo. But yes the RX is a very nice card and we have the 500 series now.

Where does he say that he already has a motherboard? If anything, he implies the exact opposite.

"Hello, im looking to upgrade my current pc build," and he only talks about upgrading CPU and GPU so Im not sure how he is implying that....

Well the main reason i said i didnt want amd is because i havent researched much in the new ryzen cpus, and didnt want more choices to make. Im not sure what the difference willl be in terms of gaming performance and longevity if i choose amd. As for the motherboard, im in fact upgrading it too, so if i end up with amd i could change to an amd mobo as long as the price difference isnt too high.

I had everything but the cpu and gpu sorted out but i guess i could change the other components as well.

The rest of my upgrade consists of a $90 b250m mobo, $65 evga 500b psu and $70 8gb ddr4 ram

Uh no... just because he mainly talks about the CPU and GPU doesn't mean he's only upgrading those two components.

"Not considering k processors because the price difference in buying a cooler and oc mobo is way too much in here."

The reason why he's not even considering a K-series CPU is because he also needs to buy a more expensive Z-series motherboard. Ergo, he doesn't have a motherboard yet.

I'd suggest you get a 1600+rx 480 or 580

Make sure to quote me or tag me when responding to me, or I might not know you replied! Examples:

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

The Ryzen CPUs should honestly be your main choice. The extra threads/cores is a game-changer in itself... much more consistent frametimes in games and will be better at anything that's multithreaded. A decent B350 motherboard shouldn't cost that much as well. The fact is that nobody should really be buying i5s anymore. With i7s, it's understandable.

As for your other parts, I suggest you spend a bit more on the power supply. The Seasonic S12II 520 or the Corsair CX450M are both good choices.

Kk ill most likely end buying amd ryzen 5 1600 and that psu. As for the gpu, do u recommend getting the 1060 3gb($260), rx 480($303) or 1050 ti($190)?(those are the prices in my country). And as for the mobo will a msi b350m gaming pro suffice?

Thanks for the help!

Naturally the RX 480 4GB... but if the GTX 1060 6GB is available for around the same price, that might be better.

And yes, that motherboard is fine.

Thanks again everyone for the help, really appreciate it
