Hi

I have a problem with my laptop. It's a HP Compaq 6735s. It won't start up if the charger is connected. Without the charger it starts up, but it is slow, CPU usage is much higher than usual and if I connect the charger after starting up the laptop the fan is always at max RPM's and it won't charge the battery. If I start it with the charger connected it flashes the hard drive LED orange, caps lock light flashes 5 times and the screen stays dim.

looks like a general system board error, whatever that means. did you try another poweradapter already?

This is from 2009?  That’s about the life span you will get from any (good) laptop vendor before the gremlins start coming out.

It does sound like the power brick or the motherboard   has issues.  The eased one is to replace is the brick, the motherboard if this is 2009 is not worth doing.  But if you want a project you can do it relatively inexpensively from bay.

Will it boot from a cold start with the power adapter attached?  (off not plugged in and no battery for 3 hours pulse).   It may be too hot to start with the power cord attached, but on batter it uses less power so can run cooler. (sort off)

I got it back today and it's working for now.

Yes, I think it is from 2009.

It didn't boot at all if the power adapter was attached. Not from a cold or a hot start.
