Audio Technica ADG1 while gaming, need soundcard or dac?

snak3d0c

HI,

i had a friend came over and he has the steelseries artic 7.(https://steelseries.com/gaming-headsets/arctis-7) -> adh1 specs : http://www.audio-technica.com/cms/headphones/97d660ada89c32c8/index.html

He said that my audio was fine but that his directional sound was way better.

Now since he lives in sweden (and i don't) i can't check to confirm.

I mainly play Rainbox six siege and quite competitive.

I plugged in my headset on my girlfriends computer the other day and i found that the directional sound on her computer (with my headset) was a lot better.

I have a ASUS-P8Z77-V (Realtek® ALC892 8-Channel High Definition Audio CODEC )  motherboard, she has a Gigabyte G1.Sniper B5 (Realtek® ALC898 codec).

So that led me to believe it's not my headset that's the problem, but maybe the soundcard?

So i'm thinking about buying the  ASUS Xonar Phoebus based of off this review

http://www.guru3d.com/articles-pages/asus-xonar-phoebus-soundcard-review,6.html

I was wondering what you guys would suggest?

thanks in advance

Was your friend on drugs? Your ATH-ADG1 have a WAY WAY bigger soundstage and much better directional audio. Would you see an improvement in audio quality by getting something like a fulla 2? Yes. Is it needed? No.

Have you tried playing with the sound settings in the game? Maybe you didn't have it on the headphone setting or your friend is just so in love with the artic 7's...

Before you buy amp and dac.  My thoughts on the M50x  Ultimate Ears Reference monitor review I might have a thing for audio...

My main Headphones and IEMs:  K612 pro, HD 25 and Ultimate Ears Reference Monitor, HD 580 with HD 600 grills

DAC and AMP: RME ADI 2 DAC

Speakers: Genelec 8040, System Audio SA205

Receiver: Denon AVR-1612

Desktop: R7 1700, GTX 1080  RX 580 8GB and other stuff

Laptop: ThinkPad P50: i7 6820HQ, M2000M. ThinkPad T420s: i7 2640M, NVS 4200M

Feel free to pm me if you have a question for me or quote me. If you want to hear what I have to say about something just tag me.

well that's what i thought too but is there an explanation for me hearing better directions on my GF pc instead of on mine?

I have used both the included usb dac and the normal "splitter?" 3.5mm

would the dac fulla 2 help on soundstage and directional audio?

Would a soundcard like i mentioned help?

i tested different gamesettings all the same.

But the same settings on GF pc yield different results. So its not the game.
