I have a fairly new windows 10 computer i built. I started seeing ads all over the place, and I thought I could fix it easily with malwarebytes. Malwarebytes identified it as adware.elex. For some reason whenever I remove it with Malwarebytes, it keeps coming back. Ive also tried Bitdefender(which didn't even see the threat), adwcleaner, and Hitman Pro. I've checked various sources on google on how to remove it manually, but none of them work.

I want to try and remove it without reinstalling windows.

Build:

Intel Core I7 6700k (clocked to 4.6ghz)

Patriot Viper 3000mhz ddr4

Evga gtx 1080 superclocked

250GB Samsung 850 evo

2tb WD Black 7200rpm

Ek watercooling kit a240g with 360 expansion pack

Primochill Vue Red fluid

Corsair Graphite 600t (white)

You thought "Gee, Donald Trump sure has a great build!"

If it's a virus that keeps coming back, chances are you're gonna have to wipe all of your drives and reinstall Windows. It could be anywhere.

Clear out all restore points (and I mean all restore points) as it might be using system restore to reinstate itself.

If that doesn't work (or hasn't worked) then the only option is to do what @Kobathor has already stated and nuke the OS install and start from scratch.

Most adware uses a virus that stays dormant.

When you remove the adware the virus will see that and at a later point re download the adware.

They also make copies of itself, and places itself in the registry.

TBH, only way to 100% remove it so to format.

It's not a race to the bottom.
