Creator update - remove Smartscreen warning

My Win 10 PC has just updated to what I assume is the Creator's update.

It now has a shield icon in the system tray with a yellow warning.

If I right click the only option is Open - this takes me to a Your Device Is Being Protected window with App And Browser Control showing a warning icon. Clicking this shows that the 'problem' is the Smartscreen is turned off.

Is there any way I can get rid of this warning from the system tray? Ideally without losing the ability to have warnings about things that actually matter and I need to be warned about :)

Thank you.

That reminds me. I gotta reboot to install the update. I have smartscreen off too so I may be able to duplicate the issue and maybe help. In the mean time, if you hir Win+R and run winver.exe, you get the current version and build visible. Creator's update is version 1703, the one before it (Anniversary Update) looks to be 1607.

Task manager, startup, disable the windows maintenance one (don't remember what it's called).

Make sure to quote or tag me (@JoostinOnline) or I won't see your response!

There's this one:

\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Defender\Windows Defender Cache Maintenance

Microsoft Malware Protection Command Line Utility

"%ProgramFiles%\Windows Defender\MpCmdRun.exe" -IdleTask -TaskName WdCacheMaintenance

Is that the one? I want to be sure before disabling Windows maintencance tasks :)

Any idea what other affects disabling it has?

Thank you :)

Well, I can verify that it's not just you. If you disable the notification service, the Defender will still function just fine, it just won't notify you on these things. Re-enabling Smart Screen would get rid of the error. I myself left everything on disabled as it was before and disabled the notification. To be clear, it'll still monitor your firewall and do virus scans you just have to rely on the popups to get the info.
