Ikea Desk

✪ end

I'm going to buy a new desk soon, since the one I had fell apart. I've been reseraching researching everwhere. I always end up back at IKEA. Now that i'm set on ikea ( i dont want to build ) I have a few questions. My price range is around 130 and I want 2 24inch monitors to fit along with my cat that sleeps on my desk.

What legs are useable for this http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/50106773/ . Is it only the gerton legs, or would adils work too.

I've looked into getting this http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10251352/ but its hollow inside and I don't think that it would be sturdy for my monitors AND my cat

This is kind of an inbetween of those things of those things I just linked. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/90353747/ but its fiberboard and I read that it will sag eventually.

I don't think I could get the alex storage space for more room, the desk will be against the wall if that helps with the sturdyness, and on carpet.

Hello and welcome to the forums!

Coming from the land of Swede--Ikea, I can happily tell you almost any legs will with that table in the right section.

http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/50200271/

Theses are cheap and look decently basic. Wont stick out much.

Combine 2 of those with an Alex:
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10373037/

And you'll have a perfectly goodlooking table. (Using the Alex as legs for the right/left half)

As for the 3 choices you gave us I'll vote for the first one for aesthetic reasons.

The second is black, you'll never have a clean desk. Dust is very visible on it.

And the third is just.. Boring and bland.

When it comes to size, no problem. I have an 160x80cm which is basically 5-10cm difference from your choices.

I have a triple monitor setup and still kind of room for more.

You can see my setup as reference in my profile under "About me".

The first one will look professional and very clean.

Wow that was fast! I really want the solid wood one (first options) but I can't afford 4 of the gerton legs and/or alex. Would 4 ADILS legs or Godvin be best, on carpet. I heard it wasen't sturdy on cheap legs :( I could maybe get 2 Adils and this http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10353765/

Yea that might work too!

To begin with, those are some cheap legs. They aren't very sturdy and that's fact! (Speaking from experience)

What I would do in that case is buy 4 of either ADILS or GODVIN and remove 2 for an Alex later, that way you save money now for something that'll look AMAZING later.

I know the solid wood one is expensive now, but you probably not be satisfied with the other ones knowing you COULD have gotten something better looking.

You will, after all, always see your desk when you use your PC.

And sure they aren't sturdy, but it's not like the table swivels and shakes like crazy. THEY'RE LEGS! :D

Yea, that's what I was thinking. It's just that I looked up and couldn't find anyone using the Gerton table top with Adil/Godvin legs, so it's hard to go on. The only thing I saw was an alex drawer with 2 godvin legs. I'm morbidly afraid that the legs will be awful, i don't know why

_ps sorry for marking you as solution it was missclick_

You'll be fine, and keep in mind that it's only temporary! If you hold on with those legs you have the Alex drawer the coming month if you're willing to get them by then. I believe in them.

No worries, if you don't think I solved anything ;)

Alright here is my take as someone who works at IKEA as a product Quality specialist:

Any legs will go with any table table top, however you have to keep in mind that the ADILS legs are not height adjustable (all they have a bottom cap with a screw to level it out) so you have 1 height and that is it. Depending on the time you spend at your desk you might want to be able to adjust it to be at the correct ergonomic height for you. The GERTON legs can provide this however at half the price (here locally) you can also get the OLOV legs which preform the same function (and use the same system to adjust the height, fair warning if you loosen them to much you might have to pull them out adjust them and push them back in as it is a friction system. Not to worry it is plenty strong my 100kg fat ass can sit down on 1 leg and it won't move).

Table top wise the LINNMON are indeed hollow with a carton hex filling and are rated up to 50kg of load (as are all desk tops). The fact is that the construction can handle a lot of load, but if you ever get angry and smash your fist down away from the edge you are likely to make a good dent in it as it cannot handle impact. So if that has you worried I woudl advise the KLIMPEN over the GERTON for the simple reason that the GERTON being wood needs maintenance and does not clean easily and can stain, it does however looks better :)

Long story short here are two options::

http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/90353747/

 +

http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/30264301/

Which brings you at a total of 130USD so directly on budget.

Or if you are willing to loose 10cm in width, but upgrade quality wise a fair bit:

http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S79006358/

Which is 160 USD so a little above, but I would say it is worth it.

Crap. I should of checked back here before buying. I got 4 olov black legs and a Gerton desk. Its "curing" or whatever from some linnseed oil, they didnt have the oil that is recommended so bought from Lowes. Are you saying I messed up, i felt the KLIMPEN and it wasn't nice feeling. I really just wanted something that will last, I dont know much about fiberboards but that was the material of the KLIMPEN. I know wood, its wood. :P

For the OLOV legs how do you adjust it? When its standing do you turn it or do it when its flipped over. Thankz
