Is something wrong?

Hi guys.. I built a new PC, used asrock overclock settings for 4ghz and now I want to stress test.. before I begin, AIDA64 shows that my clock speeds go up and down all the time.. what is up with that? I'm new to overclocking ?

i7 6800k

By the way, voltages are stable at 1.240V

thats normal, the cpu underclocks if it doesnt have much to do. if you start the stresstest, all cores should be on max frequency

Unless you disable all turbo and all power saving features, your CPU clocks are expected to fluctuate between idle (low) and load (high).

Oh thank you guys! It's an expensive system and I thought I did something wrong ?

Think of it like an engine, it takes more gas and power to go uphill.

The CPU doesn't go at full frequency when it's not going "uphill" since there's no need.

 

CPU speed will go up when it's necessary.
