PSU, Case... etc Cables

Go to solution Solved by Guest,

Front panel connector, front audio and USB comes with the case to connect

Chassis instrusion is not needed afaik

As for PSU:

PCIE connects to GPU

ATX/EPS connects to mobo

and SATA power connects to storage like HDD, SSD and ODD (optical drive). Do note you also should need to connect SATA DATA from mobo to them too (mobo should come with 2 sata data)

And the ATX/CPU Power comes from PSU too

Speaker/buzzer iirc is for error sound/beep

Hai there,

I've been watching some videos about PSU cables, case cables... etc and I'm a little bit confused, honestly.

So the PSU I'll be using (probably) is the CX450M (http://www.corsair.com/en-us/cx-series-cx450m-450-watt-80-plus-bronze-certified-modular-atx-psu-na).

I know that the PSU has some cables such as:

- PCI-Express [Connects (I guess) to the Graphics card]

- EPS/CPU Cable [Connects (I guess) to the Motherboard (at the top of the mobo)

- ATX Power cable [Connects (I guess) to the Motherboard (the big one)

- Sata/power cables that connect to the SSD, HDD... etc

(Is that correct? If it isn't please correct me on something)

I also know that the case has some cables included with itself such as the front panel connectors. Now here's what confuses me the most: I downloaded the H270 Gaming m3 manual thing and I've been trying to learn what are these:

2.png.7ad6ac6ee58726a773a0631f1e320bb0.png1.png.a30005fa267c007e3f270d0f1969b08b.png3.png.ab39fc102994d4c11685864448ab2344.png4.png.f4ec5dfca2edafda1fc224398df9ece7.pngDo I really need to connect all of this crap to the motherboard? All I'm using is a mouse, keyboard, monitor and headphones. I understand that I need to connect the audio thingy to be able to listen to music for example but ... front panel connectors.? idk Is it an additional thing to connect other than the front panel connectors?

For example: The Front audio connector that you see in the image. Does it normaly come with cases? Also the USB 2.0 and 3.1 Gen 1 connectors?

I know that the case (front part) as some USB thing to connect your flash drives and stuff and even a headphone jack, and I need to connect these from the case to the motherboard.

Resuming:

PSU: Need to connect the EPS/CPU to the motherboard, ATX Connector to the motherboard and PCI-Express to the GPU and Sata/sata power thing cables to the SSD + HDD.

Case: Front panel connectors to the motherboard and... is there something missing? or that's all I need to connect from the case to the Mobo.

lawl this looks like a book soz for the confusion. Any help would be appreciated!

Thank you!

@deXxterlab97 Oh I got it. What about the case cables? Only front panel connectors needed to connect to the mobo or do I need to connect anything else from the case to the mobo?

The PSU part is correct and for the case connectors.

The front panels connectors are come individual with the case and you connect them to their counterpart on the mobo.proftech.jpg

The second one is optional and is a speaker that is not required at all and comes witht the mobo.

The audio cable is one cable that you only can plug in one way and the intrusion detection is not needed.

You would think Ubisoft would support the Bulldozer based architectures more given their digging themed names like bulldozer, Piledriver, Steamroller and Excavator.

What connects where: connect to JFP1 from the case. This is essentially the power button and the LED for it

The big ass cable that you see goes to USB 3.1 you see, even though your case doesn't support 3.1 but it will be still backward compatible with 3.0

HD Audio goes to JAUD1, USB 2.0 goes to JUSB1-2, HDMI is really not needed (it's mainly for VR and I doubt your GPU has it)

@deXxterlab97 The GPU I'm gonna be using is either a GTX 1060 6GB MSI Gaming X or a RX 480 / 580 . Or even (if Nvidia releases it before july) a GTX Pascal Refresh one xD

The motherboard will label where all the connections go such as HDD_LED, which is the thing that will be written on the cable that connects to your case.

It's a little frustrating but as long as you follow the rules of "red and white are positive and black is negative" you'll have no problems.

I mean hey, at least you're dealing with normal standards when it comes to the front panel connections. The first time I had to connect those I had a stupid Lenovo proprietary board which made connecting the front I/O literally trial and error. Took a few days for me to just happen across the pins that worked for the power button and LEDs....

@STRMfrmXMN omg that must have been a nightmare D:

Also I've a question: If I plug something wrong or if I not plug something that I should into the mobo and I turn the pc on, will it give me an error or..?

If it's an LED or something similar the LED will dysfunction. Like in the case of the power LED in that system if I wired it semi-correct the LED light would basically always be on unless the PC were on. Weird stuff like that.

Really it's not that hard. Read the case manual and the motherboard manual if you're really unsure.
