Workstation

This is for my buddy. He needs a Workstation to mostly autocad work and ALOT of GIS work using esri software. Dosent want to game on it quite yet but would like to be able to upgrade it for gameing later. He has a budget of about 1000 usd but is willing to go higher if needed for a good cpu. This will also be on display so pretty always helps. Thanks !

He likes white. But dosent have an opinion on the graphics just wants somthing that will be able to process the data and look good while doin it lol

Either should be good then. I'll do my best to incorporate some white then! Does me want a larger (more expandable) or smaller PC?

It's about $30 over budget, and you'll need to buy a copy of Windows. I went for an RX480, as it's got more VRAM, but I'll do a poll to see which is best for CAD: the 1060 6GB or the RX480.

What GIS software is he using? I see that arcGIS Pro wants an nVidia or ATI card. I think the RX480 is an ATI (Isn't it run by AMD?), but I'm not sure. I'll Google it.

 

EDIT: The RX480 is fine. I just checked on the arcGIS site.

PLEASE NO, even if for AutoCAD the single core performance is king, for GIS work you want to throw in as many core as you can, so the 7600k is out of questions

on GIS with this you should have around 3-4 times more horsepower respect to the 7600k, the case can be changed also with the nzxt 340 elite black and white, they are similar in price and in features, it's down to personal preferences.

I went with an all black and white build, the ram have white leds, meanwhile, both the cpu cooler and the gpu are rgb, so you will choose what you want

Looks good. I didn't know GIS was optimized for multiple cores. 

 

 

EDIT after thinking a bit:

Does he really need that many cores? If he goes with a 6 core Ryzen or a Quad core i5, he can afford a better GPU, which will help in any 3D software or if he decides to play games. I think the i5 is the best all-rounder, for price, performance, and the ability to do a lot of different things. The OP did say he was going to use it for games later, and it needs to look bling, as it'll be on display.
