I'm having performance issues with my laptop. My friend's laptop reach about the same FPS with my laptop in Dota 2 at 1080p, fastest preset (lowest settings). His laptop specs is i5 7200U, 4GB RAM, 1TB HDD, GT 940MX 2GB GDDR5 while mine is i5 7300HQ, 4GB RAM, 1TB HDD, GTX 1050 2GB.
Is my laptop underperforming? What's going wrong?

what is the power plan set to? whats your gpu usage? is it running on the igpu?

normally, your laptop should kick the ass of the other machine.

High performance. (Prefer maximum perfomance for GPU) GPU usage depends on load, about 10-50%. No, I had set to Nvidia GTX 1050 in the Nvidia Control Panel.

So you're using the Legion Y520... did you check to see if you're thermally throttling and using the 1050 right? Optimus sometimes doesn't work the best with games, I know that the Source 2 engine defaulted to using the HD 530 iGPU for Left 4 Dead 2 and refused to use the 960M I have until I manually forced it in the settings.

 

Either that or check to see if temps are okay. Those are the initial things I'm thinking of...

 

...and I just noticed you're using a 5400RPM HDD, I'm betting that's your issue if consistent performance is wanted. You really do need a 7200RPM HDD for gaming in general. Any slower is just garbage.

Yes temperatures are fine, no throttling. Using 1050 in Nvidia Control Panel.

My friend's laptop and my brother's laptop both using 5400RPM HDD with no lagging issues.
May add a SSD in future.
