Hi,

I have a server which has 2 500GB drives in RAID 1

motherboard is

My question is, if I remove both drives and put them aside I case something goes wrong, can I put 2 new drives in and setup a new RAID 1 with 2 x 1TB drives? Would this cause any corruption issues with the original drives?

yep, you can make a new raid 1 if you remove the old drives.

Id use software raid in your os rather than the raid on the motherboard though. You get many more features(checksumming, compression, dedup) and its easier to manage, and its better at keeping your data.(mobo raid is just bad software raid)
