I have just restarted my system and it says "failed to start load kernel modules"

Well a update broke the system. I don't know exactly how(and thats a pain to know over a forum).

Does a older kernel work?

Arch is not the easiest distribution to handle =)

Unless you can post a picture of the last messages (or better jet - boot from a live CD/USB, dig into the log files and paste the contents here) - or boot and older Kernel, as already proposed (which should work) and do the same things (get into the logs, post the information here, so we can help you fix it), I believe we can not help. You need to give specific information to get any help!

That being said, Arch Forums can be more helpful. Not saying that this forum isn't, but there's bound to be more Arch users there.

Also, it is a fact that unless you have specifically told pacman to not do it, it will upgrade the Kernel (which can break things, especially proprietary drivers - Arch is not a distro for beginners).
