Hello! I have a Dell Inspiron 5547 with an i7 processor and an 8GB RAM DD3L 1600mhz 204 pin (there are two slots). I want to upgrade my laptop's ram to 16GB (8GB each) but I'm worried if it will experience any issues when booting up because I read an article about a ram replacement and the laptop did not power on due to cmos battery etc. that i don't know anything about. So I would like to ask is it safe to upgrade the ram of my laptop? Will i experience any issues with it?

Thanks!

Normally its safe to replaace it, as long as everything is compatible of course, sometimes you do end up having to the the cmos, I'd look into the process for doing it on your laptop(popping the internall/cmos/coin battery for a couple minutes and make sure you're comfortable doing so first just in case

Hello, what are the circumstances that will trigger the cmos? Also, what is its relation with ram replacement? I apologize with my lack of knowledge in these topics.

99% chance you will be fine if you do the RAM upgrade. Done it on a dozen of my own laptops and never had issues. Just remove the old RAM and put the new stuff in exactly like the old stuff was and you will be fine.

Is it necessary to remove the battery first, then install the ram? I saw this multiple times while researching and I dont know why they do that.

Normally there's no need to. If it won't boot up after you upgrade, remove the ram and the battery for a few minutes and try again. It's basically like turning the subsystem off and back on to kind of force the computer to refresh itself and accept the new memory.
