PG258Q no audio over HDMI or DisplayPort

So I have a PG258Q and it has built in speakers from what I can tell but when I try and output audio to it from my PC there's no sound regardless of the volume setting.

 

Any ideas?

Have to ask the obvious question, you do have the sound drivers installed from your video card correct?

Yes. I have a GTX 970 and I've used audio over HDMI before. I tried both HDMI and DP and it appears to be outputting sound but there's nothing coming from the speakers.

does the monitor have a headphone jack? Could try plugging in some ear buds or something to see if you have any sounds coming from it.

No there was an issue with direct sound. Something I had open was buggin out the audio.
