screen brightness shortcut on desktop?

Hey guys is there any way to map the screen brightness (+/-) settings onto keyboards on a desktop similar to laptops.

Unless there is control software for your monitor, no. The reason that works on a laptop is because it's all an integrated piece of hardware. Just use the controls on the monitor, or use a utility that increases and decreases the brightness at the software level. I don't know how software limiting like that impacts colour quality though.
