Turn old pc into a server

Hey guys, i would like to make a server out of my old pc to host my website. I need it for a school project. Anyone know a good guide to do this?

Thx, but are there other alternatives like an os specifically for server? Kinda inexperienced at this.

If you want it a little bit harder use an Ubuntu Server version

More Information, Looks like to get Opera Unite the only way round the server not letting you download it is to download the portable version of Opera 11 as it has Unite built in

 

 

Alternatively, if you would not like to touch your existing installation of Opera, simple download the portable version of Opera from opera-usb.com (choose version 11 here) and it will have the Unite feature built-in.

Haha thanks and I think the Opera things looking more into it isn't worth it as we're kind of back tracking to older software, something's going to break eventually down the line... So yeah, I don't think Ubuntu Server is going anywhere soon

Go for Linux, its gonna be a double win for you. You will get your server running and youl learn a bit of Linux while you're at it.

Id recommend Debian for that (non GUI), but if it seems too hard get the GUI version. Also don't run Apache servers they are history, go with something lighter and newer like Nginx or Lighttpd.

haha, it´s not my main language and i yous my Iphone to write, but if i were trying to write all right i can do that it is just that it takes a bit more time.

And is you think it is that important that some one write in perfect English than i can start to do it when i have the time
